CARSEAT PARTS 101: INSTALLATION LABEL ON FMVSS COMPLIANT CRS

A few weeks ago we have discussed on the labelling system for ECE child restraint systems (CRS). This week we will touch briefly on the labelling system in an FMVSS approved CRS.

Just like an ECE approved CRS, there should be a warning label for the installation of rear-facing CRS in front of an active airbag.

The installation label also should highlight on the correct type of vehicle belt to be used, (lap-and-shoulder (3-points) belt and/or lap (2-points) belt only). Additionally, FMVSS 213 also specifies on required statement or label whether a CRS is certified or not to be used in an aircraft. Such statement or label should be placed after the certification statement.

Generally, there aren’t any colour coding system stated in FMVSS standard. The manufacturer is free to use any colour to differentiate between orientation installations. Common colours used are blue, read, orange and green.
