5 Simple Car Seat Installation Tips

From researching a new child restraint to installation, there are many decision need to be made. Correct Installation and usage are very important.

Here, we would like to share some simple tips to look into to ensure the correct installation:-

  1. Take time to read the manual.
    • We mean both car owner manual and child restraint manual. Every car and child restraint is different. Reading both the manual can let you understand more about both features and correct installation and usage.Image result for reading manual
  2. Know your car seat weight limits
    • All child restraint have weight limits. Please check the weight limit for the child restraint whether rearward or forward facing and the weight limits for using ISOFIX / LATCH.

  3. Find the BEST location to install for the child restraint
    • The back seat is the safest place for children below 13 years. Not all car allow child restraint to be put at any place. Some will have a specific location to install and subject to the group of car seat. You will also need to consider the other passenger that will be riding in the same vehicle.
  4. Using either seat belt or ISOFIX/LATCH
    • Choose whichever can have the snug fit. And also most convenient and easy for you to install and duplicate when needed. Both are equally safe if you use it correctly. NEVER use both car seat and Isofix/LATCH unless the child restraint manual allow it.

  5. Do the inch-test
    • A proper installed child restraint should not move more than 1 inch from side to side or front to back when pull at the lap seat belt path. This applies t both rearward and forward facing installation.

  1. Thanks for going over these car seat installation tips. I actually didn’t know that there are different weight limits depending on the restraint. It definitely sounds like it could be beneficial to make sure you understand the car sear well, especially as a child is growing so that you know when you may need to get a new one, or any other adjustments like that.

Nevertheless, if you’re still not sure if you’re doing it the right way, it’s always best to seek assistance from a professional. This way, you would be able to properly set-up your car seats without worrying about accidentally damaging them.
